A quick update on the course conditions following the recent extended rain periods.
While it’s looking beautiful and green out there, a few areas remain a bit wet.
From January to May, we’ve recorded over 1400mm of rain, that’s more than our annual average in just five months! With 2 out of 3 days being rain days this year, the course has been quite wet, with our dedicated greenkeeping team is doing all they can to keep the course open and playable.
Periods of continuous rain can lead to disease on the turf surfaces, particularly greens. Our team have been actively managing this and kept disease in check. Whilst some undesirable grass species have become more prominent lately, our focus is firstly coverage of turf areas, and we have planned to address these species when we move into the spring growing season.
Carts have been completely off the course for some time now, however, we are pleased to announce that carts will be allowed back on the course (paths only) starting from tomorrow Saturday 8th June. We have spread 15 tonnes of cart path material in recent months to make the best attempts to have carts on course. The paths have been re-graded again this week in preparation for carts on paths from Saturday. We have ordered a new product that we are going to trial shortly on known problem areas on the paths, which we hope addresses the rutted sections in the future, stay tuned.
We appreciate that many members have been frustrated not being able to play the course, we share your frustrations too. Many members enjoy the social aspects of the game, and whilst we endeavour to get the back to its usual playing standard, come visit us for a social in the clubhouse or book into our all-weather indoor golf studio for your golfing fix!
It has become evident some members are finding it difficult to see the difference between our new flags from a distance. We have ordered alternative colours and will replace once they arrive.
We look forward to seeing you at the club soon.
Regards Ballina Golf & Sports Club Team
